Often overlooked by history, the first ladies of the United States White House have always been held in high esteem during their time, often hosting state functions, and supporting the president privately and publicly. These are short vignettes of the first twenty-five U.S. first ladies from Martha Washington to Edith Roosevelt. The concluding chapters describe various rooms of the White House and explain Official Etiquette.
